What comes into your head when you hear the words ‘Content creation‘?

The words ‘content creation’ means exactly that; creating content for your communication channels. It involves text, how you communicate, hashtags, images, gifs or memes, even filters, among others. We use all these elements to get the attention of our audience.

Some programs help you to have an easier life and create elements that capture the attention, those are the so-called tools, like for example, Canva or Photoshop. These tools are specialized in image editing.

We have other content editing tools such as;

content creation

Today I would like to focus on showing you the difference between Canva and Photoshop, so you can choose which tool is best for you and your business.

Let’s start with Photoshop.

It is a software that was born in 1988 and is included in the Adobe pack (some of the programs included in the pack are; Lightroom, Illustrator, InDesign, XD, Rush) and you can get it, along with the pack for the modest price of £49.94/month. *Sometimes you can find special offers.

It may seem like complicated software but, on the contrary, once you start navigating it gets easier and over the years a large number of online tutorials have been created, some free and some paid (I recommend the paid ones if you want to work at a more professional level).

Photoshop is a robust platform for designing any kind of graphic. Its interphase looks different from Canva because it’s created with graphic designers in mind.

Personally, I fell in love with Photoshop since I was taught at university. At first, it cost me a bit, but once you get the hang of it,… you fall in love.

Idea

If you are overwhelmed, as I am, by the amount of functions and buttons it has, I advise you to always have a notebook next to you where you write down the functions and tricks you are learning from the software.

At that time they only taught me the basics, to make flyers, and to edit pictures, but after years, with some courses and investigating a little on my own, I discovered that I only knew 5% of their tools. So if you like the world of graphic design, I recommend you to give it a try.

Apart from the adobe pack, it is designed so that, when you mix some of its tools, you get extraordinary results. For example, you can use Photoshop to edit your photos and add them to a catalogue you have created with Indesign.

And now Canva

Do we agree that Canva has been the app par excellence for Digital Marketing this year?

Apart from Tik Tok,… where we will talk about it at another moment.

Canva’s story began in 2007 when Melanie Perkins, its creator, was studying at the University of Western Australia and realised that people had trouble learning programs such as InDesign and Photoshop. Melanie had the idea but was missing a technological co-founder. A few years later she met Cliff Obrecht and together they launched Canva in 2012 and the rest is history.

You can find the full story on the official Canva website.

The most important question here is if it was created in 2012, why is it so famous after eight years?

The answer is simple, because of Covid19 the target audience of brands is in social networks (want to find out more about your target audience? visit our article ‘Who is your target?)

Because of this phenomenon, we are looking for a simpler and more loaded tool with enough features and functionality that anyone can create a variety of attractive content in a matter of minutes.

templates in Canva

As shown in the image, the application has a wide variety of templates, while in Photoshop, you need to know the exact size of each social media channel post.

You can investigate how Canva works in the free version or pay £10.99/month between five people. Like Photoshop, you can find several Facebook groups, YouTube channels, and paid and free courses dedicated to teaching you how Canva and Photoshop work.

Although it’s almost unfair to compare Photoshop with Canva for its ease of use because they are aimed at different audiences with different skill levels, it’s always good to know a little about the programs that can make your life easier.

I leave you a little summary of the qualities of Photoshop and Canva, so you can choose which one is best for you and your business. Remember that you can always contact me at flourishboundless1@gmail.com for more information on how to implement these tools in your business.
